Working abroad 'offers business advantages'

Working abroad could offer a number of advantages to small businesses, an expert has noted.

According to Neal Gandhi of Quickstart Global, expanding globally was once seen as the sole preserve of large enterprises.

However, he believes that technology has progressed to the point where smaller businesses can also establish themselves in other countries.

Writing for FreshBusinessThinking.com, Mr Gandhi suggested that working abroad could improve quality, credibility and give a firm a competitive advantage.

He also noted that other countries may allow people to benefit from productivity gains and cost savings.

"Small companies can get out there and combine their flexibility and adaptability and energy with the fact that the cost of the infrastructure is next to nothing," Mr Gandhi commented.

The advice comes after a report carried out by the Migration Policy Institute for the BBC World Service showed a slight drop in international migration in 2009.

This was attributed partly to the global financial crisis, although the study showed those who had already moved abroad chose to stay where they were last year.
