Tax
Residents of Norway pay tax on their worldwide income. Non residents pay tax only on Norwegian sourced income. Tax treaties with other countries ensure that the same income will not be taxed twice in relation to those other countries.
The rate of tax is 28%. In addition a surtax of 7% to 12% is charged on amounts exceeding NOK 36,750 per month.
Deductions
A standard deduction of 36% base salary (minimum NOK 31,800, maximum NOK 70,350) is allowed to cover expenses. Actual expenses can be claimed if they are higher.
Social Security
The Social Security rate is 7.8% for employees and 14.1% for employers.
Healthcare
Healthcare is covered by the Social Security contributions with the exception of a small fee per consultation.
